Hive Mind is a body of work which was incrementally developed over a twelve month period. Originally established as part of the monthly Far Orchard Newsletter, created by the 2023/24 Far Orchard Artist Caitlin Dick.
Hive Mind is written from the perspective of a Honey Bee and follows the journey and life cycle of a colony. The stories connect fact, fiction, folklore and imagined realities of the Honey Bee. This enables the reader an opportunity to gain an alternative perspective while asking them to consider: What practices of care can we co-create with non-human species?, What would it mean to have a ‘hive mind’ in relation to the environmental crisis? and, How might we learn from pollinators to implement collective care of The Far Orchard for the future?
This offers an opportunity to explore a more than human species model of practice as a metaphor and approach to The Far Orchard Network.
