The pruning workshop took place in January 2023 and was an opportunity to get “up close and personal” with apple trees and gain valuable hands-on experience of the whole pruning process. The workshop was led by our apple expert Andrew Lear, the Appletreeman and was attended by around 30 Far Orchard hosts. It was a beautiful, sunny, crisp day and a very sociable event where everyone enjoyed learning new skills, asking questions and getting to know one another.
Andrew went through the different methods of pruning, the tools needed and their safe use and maintenance. Andrew also answered questions on apple tree pests, diseases & disorders.
Andrew demonstrated on the veteran James Grieve and espaliers in the Walled Garden at the Barn and on other Far Orchard trees in the neighbouring allotments.
